APush Final project options 2018
Depending on your choice in final project you will work alone, in pairs or in small groups. You will have class time to work on the project but may need to work outside of class as well. Choose your group members wisely. It is your choice which of the following you complete. Each project will be scored on the quality of the work produced. All projects are due June 6.
Project 1: Breakout Edu Game - Work with a team to create a Breakout game on one of the following topics or make a period review game. Mrs. Myers will provide you with information of what locks are available, types of puzzles and a template. You will need to create all resources needed to run the game. Possible topics include: Presidency of Andrew Jackson, Market Revolution, Manifest Destiny, Reconstruction, Spanish American War/Imperialism, New Deal, Cuban Missile Crisis, Women's Rights Movement (60s/70s), Grape Boycott, Presidency of Ronald Reagan and the Environmental Movement. If you have another topic in mind, please let Mrs. Myers know. No repeats will be allowed. (3-4 student project)
Project 2: Political Assassins - Many Presidents and politicians have had attempts on their lives. Some have succeeded, where others have not. Choose one of the following people and create an interesting and informative Google Slide presentation to tell the story of who they were and why they killed/attempted to kill the person they did. People include John Wilkes Booth (Lincoln), Charles J. Guiteau (Garfield), Leon Czolgosz (McKinley), James Earl Ray (Martin Luther King Jr), Lee Harvey Oswald (JFK), Sirhan Sirhan (Bobby Kennedy), John W Hinckley Jr (Reagan). If you have another person in mind, please let Mrs. Myers know. No repeats will be allowed. (1-2 student project)
Project 3: Founding Brothers Stories - The book Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis has six stories about our founding fathers. Choose one of the stories and turn the story into an interesting and informative Google Slides presentation to share with the class. The stories include Hamilton-Burr Duel, Compromise Over Hamilton's Financial Plan, Washington's Farewell Address, Quaker Slavery Petition, and two others. No repeats will be allowed. (1-2 student project)
Project 4: Hall of Shame - Just like we created and inducted figures into the Great American Hall of Fame, our classes will each induct a member into the Hall of Shame. If you choose this option, you must create the potato head, make a name plate AND prepare an induction speech to be given in class. Remember the induction speech should be a roast of their life. (3-4 student project)
Project 5: Political Scandals/Stories - Many Presidents/historical figures had scandals during their presidency. Your task is to investigate one of the following individuals and scandals associated with them. Examples include the Peggy Eaton Affair (Jackson) and the Credit Mobilier Scandal (Grant). Look for interesting stories that could be shared with students as they learn about history. Make a Google Slides presentation or Google Doc with the story. Write it in an interesting manner. No repeats will be allowed. (1-2 student project)
Project 6: Historical Dinner Party - For this assignment, your team will pick a time period in US History, research a short list of people from the time period and then create a fictitious dinner party in which these people sit down for dinner with the president of the United States.You will need a president and 7 dinner guests from the time period. Think about which personalities might provide for interesting conversation at the dinner table. After choosing the president and dinner party guests, you will need to:
Project 7: Rap Battle - In the musical Hamilton, there are two rap battles between Hamilton and Jefferson. If you choose this project, you will create a rap battle between two other famous historical individuals who had opposing viewpoints. Despite the fact that the Hamilton cabinet battles have profanity, since this is for a school project profanity is prohibited. Keep it clean please. No repeats will be allowed. (1-2 student project)
Project 8: Family History - How did your family get to Temecula? Where were they before? Who were your grandparents? Write the story of your family and their journey to Temecula and you! (1 student project)
Project 9: APUSH Superhero - Choose a historical figure and turn them into a superhero alter ego. You will need to draw the new alter-ego and then include the following information on a poster: Alter-Ego Name (Based on the additional info), Origin Story (basic biographical information), Purpose (Why they exist/why they help society), Superpowers (Accomplishments), Enemies/Nemesis (People they disagreed with), Kryptonite (What challenged them), Sidekick/Mentor (People they influenced and who influenced them), Symbol/Costume (How they represent their era of history), Secret Lair (A place they frequented or could be found),No repeats will be allowed. (1-2 student project)
Project 10: Design Your Own - Design your own final project that relates to US History events, people, course themes, etc. You must get your project approved by Mrs. Myers BEFORE you begin work on the project! (1-4 student project depending on tasks)

- Make an invitation from the president inviting them to dinner that includes the entertainment – showing of a popular movie of the era, private concert, bowling in the White House bowling alley with the appropriate music on the stereo, etc.
- Provide a seating arrangement for the dinner – remember that it might cause conflicts if some people sit next to each other.
- Provide the menu – three courses using creative names for the food that reflects the time period
- Provide 3 questions from each of the guests that they might have for the hosting president – and you must have a response by the president
- Also provide a script of a 5-10 minute conversation that might happen. Try to keep your questions and conversations appropriate to the current issues and foreign or domestic policies, however the occasional satire adds to the fun.
