Political Cartoon Assignment
You have had the opportunity to look at and analyze several political cartoons over the course of this unit. Now it is your turn to make one based on a current issue of interest.
Select a current event/issue and brainstorm ideas related to this issue/event. Decide what message or opinion you want to convey. A political cartoon has a message – a commentary on an event. It reflects either the artist or the public’s opinion on the subject. It uses symbols, people, exaggeration, distortion, irony, sarcasm, analogy and words to convey the message. Some times it pokes fun at a subject.
The cartoon must be your own original design and work. Copying from another source and claiming it as your own is a very serious offense as most cartoons are copyrighted and belong only to the person who created them. Copying will result in a zero on the assignment and a referral..

You may also choose a more local topic of concern to you. Remember it is a visual commentary on an issue. The cartoon should not include profanity, but can be done as “$%*&*”. It also should not include symbols or references that are of alcoholic, illegal drugs, weapons or include sexual content. Please keep violent images to a minimum. Keep it appropriate so that it could be displayed on the wall.
