Helping VICTIMS of Hurricane harvey
As many of you know, recent tragedy has struck Texas and has left many people devastated. Hurricane Harvey has severely flooded the area, destroying many of the schools and damaging any supplies in them. While much of the national attention has been on Houston and the relief efforts seem to be centered there, the city of Rockport experienced the Hurricane head on. Rockport-Fulton HS, for example, lost its entire theater program (including makeup, costumes, props, the auditorium itself, etc.), gyms have been destroyed, books in the library and in classrooms are ruined, and anything made of paper is not salvageable. Especially hard hit were the social science and world languages classrooms. In our effort to reach out and help the community of Rockport, CHS Rho Kappa, a social sciences honor society, and CHS Red Cross are teaming up to collect donations for affected schools in the area.
We will be collecting donations throughout September to support the recovery of local schools. The money spent by the state, federal government and school district will go to rebuilding and teachers will need to rebuild their classrooms from scratch. Examples of items needed include:
There will be collection boxes for items in the following areas at CHS: Counseling, Career Center, Staff Mailboxes, Room 461 and the Welcome Center.
Another way to help is through a Go Fund Me that was set up by my AP US History group. Here is the link to donate if you wish: https://www.gofundme.com/4vp5m-backpacks-and-beyond
